A Walk In My Woods

This section is a glimpse into my personal life outside of photography and video production. It’s a place where I share stories from our land, our Airstream travels, and the peace I find in nature

September in Rhode Island might be my favorite kind of in-between. One day it’s shorts and sunshine, the next it’s hoodies and campfires. The air carries a crisp edge in the morning, and that golden late-afternoon light makes everything feel a bit more vivid. Evening fires are back in rotation, and every one feels like a proper sendoff to the day.

Out in the woods behind our home, the shift is underway. Leaves are just beginning to change, the ferns are starting to brown and thin, and the forest floor is slowly revealing itself again. You can sense the trees exhaling. The deer are passing through more often now. Sometimes more than once a day. The young one that had white spots this summer is now a teenager, lanky and alert. It’s fascinating to witness those subtle changes, day by day.

I’ve set up a two-month timelapse camera in our backyard to document this transition into winter. I can’t wait to see how it captures the slow evolution. The dance of color, light, and letting go. Much like the projects I work on, the story unfolds gradually, one frame at a time.

Saying goodbye to summer always feels a little bittersweet. It marks the end of long days and late light, but it’s also a reminder: we’re meant to move through seasons. In nature, in life, and in work, change is part of the rhythm. And fall? Fall is proof that transitions can be beautiful.

This time of year often brings a kind of focused energy. It’s the calm before the storm before year-end deadlines, holiday breaks, and that familiar urgency of “let’s get this wrapped before winter.” It’s also when people start to feel the pressure: projects that have sat idle now need to be completed, stories need telling, and marketing teams are looking ahead while still closing the loop on the current year.

Over the past year, I’ve noticed a shift in my own work, too. I’ve taken on more video projects than photography, which wasn’t something I planned. That said, photography still holds a special place for me. There’s something grounding about freezing a moment in time with intention and simplicity. The kind of storytelling that can live in one single frame is powerful. And I love being part of that.

Saying goodbye to summer can feel like a loss, but it’s really just a nudge to slow down, look around, and notice the transitions—within us, and around us. In the woods and in the work I do, those shifts are where the stories live. And I’m always grateful to be paying attention.

Reflection Point

Transitions can feel uncertain. Whether it’s the woods preparing for winter or the unexpected shift in the kind of work I’m doing. But change has a way of bringing clarity. It invites us to slow down, pay attention, and trust the rhythm of the season. Whether I’m behind the camera or walking a leaf-covered trail, I’ve learned that meaningful work—and meaningful moments often show up in the quiet shifts, not the grand gestures.
