A Walk In My WoodsIn the past, I’ve always enjoyed a good campfire—whether while camping or in the backyard a few times a week. It’s a time to reflect, re-energize, and have insightful conversations with those who join me. With our new home, I’ve embraced the larger rock-lined firepit and set aside my SoloStove. While I’m a big fan of the SoloStove, there’s something irreplaceable about a big firepit, radiating heat and anchoring the opening of our two trailheads. Over the years, I’ve experimented with different ways to easily start a fire; it’s become a bit of a project. Recently, I thought I’d try something different and returned to my trusted Walden Backyards Natural Sure-Fire Starters. They never disappoint. One of the simple joys I’ve come to love is making popcorn over an open fire. There’s something magical about adding the kernels to a Dutch oven, settling it among the flames, and listening as the first pops break the quiet. The heat of the fire, the crackle of the wood, and the earthy scents of the outdoors all come together to create an experience that’s so much richer than any microwave could provide. It’s a tradition that brings both warmth and joy, and I can’t wait to share it with others who join me by the fire. This touch of nature’s kitchen is just another way I connect with the land, savoring each moment as it unfolds around the firepit in our backyard. As I sit by the fire, staring into the flames, smelling the smoke, and feeling the warmth, I find myself reflecting on life and my career. Some of my best ideas come to me in these quiet moments.
