A Walk In My WoodsThe past few weeks have transformed our property into a snow-covered wonderland, with layer upon layer of snow and ice burying the landscape. While this makes it nearly impossible to see the trails and familiar landmarks, itβs opened up a whole new world of discovery. With the snow acting as a blank canvas, I can trace the stories of the wildlife that call these woods home. Recently, we caught sight of a bobcat and a fox navigating their way across the snowy terrain. The snow makes it easier to spot them if they venture out for a stroll during the daylight. Their graceful tracks crisscross the property, revealing the paths they travel in search of food and shelter. Itβs a reminder of how the forest thrives even in the dead of winter. Each evening, when I arrive home, Iβm greeted by the hoots of the resident Barred Owls. Thereβs something magical about their calls echoing through the cold air as if theyβre welcoming me back to the woods. I like to think theyβre speaking to me, sharing secrets of the forest that only they truly understand. Even in this frozen landscape, life carries on, and each walk in my woods feels like a new chapter in a winter story waiting to be discovered.
