My Headshot and Linkedin

Recently, I updated my online presence by adding a selfie headshot I took while on a camping trip. Although it may not be the most professional-looking photo, I decided to use it as my profile picture across all my platforms (see below portrait). I love camping in my Airstream and the adventures I create during these trips. I'm sure I love my selfie headshot because I was in an emotionally happy place.

However, as I updated my Linkedin page, I realized I should invest in a new headshot with a more professional image. I'm hired to take corporate headshots of associates for their company's website and Linkedin profiles. Should I also do that? Should I hire another photographer or set up my professional camera and take my portrait? Or do I try something else? In my creative process, I wanted to incorporate my love for the outdoors into the photo.

Coincidentally, it had been raining all day, creating overcast conditions, which, combined with the yellow exterior of my house acting as a bounce card, presented an opportunity. Without needing any professional equipment or a tripod, I ventured outside, positioned my iPhone on the electrical meter box, and set it on timer mode in portrait orientation. With my photography experience and understanding of lighting, I captured a successful new profile portrait showcasing my love for the outdoors and professionalism. I was able to create that photo immediately, and I’m sure I will eventually take a professional portrait with professional equipment. For now, I will enjoy my new headshot.

I look like a hippie on a safari.
