Visual Narrative, Process, and Practice

This blog is a place to share ideas, lessons, and observations gathered over more than three decades of working in photography, video, and visual storytelling. It reflects how I think about narrative, craft, collaboration, and the role visual media plays in helping people and organizations communicate with clarity and purpose.

I approach visual storytelling as an evolving practice. Each project, collaboration, and challenge adds to how I see the world and how I help others tell their stories. This blog is part of that ongoing process, a place to reflect, refine ideas, and share what I continue to learn through real-world work.

You’ll find writing here on photography, video production, narrative structure, creative process, and the practical realities of working with clients and teams. Some posts are instructional, others reflective, but all are rooted in experience and an ongoing commitment to doing thoughtful, honest work.

My Experience with Being a Video Subject

Earlier this year, I set out to make a corporate bio video, discussing what Indermaur Media is all about. I started the project before the Pandemic (with no beard) and ended up finalizing it with a much-needed haircut and a beard. :) But more importantly, I learned so much from the experience of sitting in front of the camera, instead of my usual position behind it.

What Makes a Superior Multimedia Assistant

Our Passionate Video Production Crew

We were on a Boston corporate compliance video project, and toward the end of the day, the client told me why she enjoys working with the Indermaur Media crew. The list of items she shared was inspiring, and a gentle reminder of why I love multimedia productions and the people that create a terrific team.

While on the video set, we shared our passion for what we do. In this video assignment, we had seven crew members, six actors, and three client-side art directors to oversee the video production. Over the years, I have always worked with top-notch, experienced crew members that are professional and very passionate about what they do — having passion about what one does all day is essential to be successful with their task and create a rockstar crew. Here's what she told me...
